Vee Packing also known as Chevron or Parachute Packing
This design can be used for both rod and piston applications, the vee pack design is one of the most trusted and versatile seal types in hydraulics, preferred where safety critical applications or adverse mechanical conditions are present, it is a multi lip packing that is well known for its long working life. This design can be used in split form thus providing major downtime savings.
Vee Packing Construction The construction of this robust seal design comprises of
Female Adapter or Header Ring. (standard material) will be nitrile(nbr)/fabric or a high quality acetal copolymer.
Male Adapter or Base Ring.( standard material) will be either nitrile(nbr)/or a high quality acetal copolymer .
Intermediary Ring or Vee Ring (standard material) a cotton fabric proofed with nitrile(nbr) or Viton(fkm . There will be one or more intermediary V shape rings, these are tapered to give an initial interference when pressed into the gland housing or cylinder bore. The radial force exerted and the high quality of the materials used in our seals ensures the sealing lips remain in contact with the surface being sealed without
putting undue stress on the sealing ring itself thus ensuring a perfect seal even at low or static pressures..It has an initial interference known as preloading built so adjustment is not required for sealing. The flexibility of the design allows sealing at a wide range of pressures under almost any conditions. The rings are designed with mating surfaces that provide a void between rings, acting as a lubrication reservoir. This design helps retain nesting and allows rings to relax between cycles and ensures lubrication to reach all rings to assist in effective movement.
Where access or downtime is restricted these sets can be supplied in split form, for split applications it is normal to scarf cut the rings to ensure a pressure seal is formed at the joint.
Materials and Polymers
Construction for general applications is nbr proofed with a cotton fabric, For custom applications we can supply Vee packs in PTFE,PEEK,NYLON,ACETAL,UHMWPE,HNBR,FKM,PHENOLIC ,an infinite number of polymers can be used with the proofed cotton fabric or for extreme applications proofed Kevlar cloths can be used. We can also manufacture this seal design by pour moulding in Polyurethane to any size or colour required, with the inclusion of State of the art CNC machining centres enable Sealmasters to delivery this design from tube in days .
